BASTORA: Andrew D’Souza, a former deputy sarpanch of Bastora, has complained to the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) that a Water Resource Department (WRD) project is being executed on the banks of Bastora rivulet in violation CRZ norms.

The project is a raw water pumping station for augmentation of a multipurpose tank at Housing Board, Porvorim. It is being executed at the Guirim bypass junction. In his complaint lodged through an email, D’Souza alleged the pumping station is being carried out without a CRZ clearance and hence has requested the authority to inspect the project. “The WRD Department has started the construction of Raw Water Pumping Station at Guirim which has encroached on the Bastora-Tar River without any CRZ clearance. I demand that the GCZMA look into this matter and take immediate action,” D’Souza wrote in his complaint emailed on Friday.

WRD Chief Engineer S T Nadkarni said, “This project does not come under the CRZ zone. If you need more information you can call the Executive Engineer, Salelkar.” However, Salelkar cell phone was out of coverage area.
