PERNEM: Sending a symbolic message that it would sweep the BJP off from power in the State, the Aam Admi Party launched a ‘Zhaadu Yatra’ from Parsem in Mandrem constituency, under the leadership of its chief ministerial candidate Elvis Gomes, on Tuesday.

Incidentally, Mandrem is the constituency of Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar.

On the launch day, the yatra covered Siolim, Thivim and Aldona; AAP sources say that the yatra would cover all 40 constituencies wherein Gomes would be introduced to the people. AAP workers expect that the yatra would cover four or five constituencies a day and would culminate in Gomes’ Cuncolim constituency.

Addressing Parcem villagers, Gomes said, “There is a connection between Parcem and Cuncolim – people born in these two places fought for freedom.”

Asserting that the people are not truly free even after gaining freedom from foreign rulers, he said, the State is under the yoke of corruption and to gain freedom from this yoke, he urged, the people to bring AAP to power by voting for the broom.

The

‘Zhaadu Yatra’ was attended by AAP’s candidate for Mandrem Devendra Prabhudesai, local coordinator Rohidas Arolkar and volunteers.

Prabhudesai regretted that after winning freedom from foreign rulers, the people are forced to fight for freedom from corruption. The fight against corruption, he said, is easy since people can vote AAP to power which would eliminate corruption.
