Aires fails to depose yet again

PANJIM: Advocate Aires Rodrigues again skipped deposing before Crime Branch (CB) on Tuesday in connection with the sexual harassment case registered against him. While CB sleuths issued him a fresh summons to appear for questioning on Wednesday, it also awaits the order on Rodrigues’ anticipatory bail plea by the North District & Sessions Court to decide their future course of action.

Rodrigues on the other hand argued that he had not received any summons to depose on Tuesday.

“We have issued him fresh summons to appear on Wednesday. Let us wait till the court order on his anticipatory bail application,” SP Kartik Kashyap said.

The court is expected to pronounce its order on the application filed by the lawyer-activist on Friday.

Rodrigues is facing investigation in a case registered under sections 354 (A) (iv)(sexual harassment), 509 (words or gesture to insult modesty of a woman), 500 (defamation) of Indian Penal Code based on a woman’s complaint accusing him of circulating on Facebook and Whatsapp an alleged video linking her with a minister. The case was transferred from Anjuna police station to CB about a week ago, after NGO Savera expressed distrust in the local police investigation and demanded that the case be transferred to CB.
