PANJIM: Following the images of half-burnt documents of Panjim’s Regional Transport Office (RTO) and dumped at Kadamba plateau being circulated on social media, State Transport Department clarified that the documents are old and all the records since 2006 have been computerised.

The pictures on social media had created confusion and fear among the people. Allaying the people’s fears, the authorities stated, “The registration and other records of this office are computerised since 2006 and are maintained in a computerised system. There is a misunderstanding in the minds of the public that records have been destroyed in the fire.”

It further clarifies that labourers had disposed of the burnt papers by the side of the road unknowingly and these have been cleared.

Transport Department reiterated that all the records are safe in the computerised system, and only the manual records have been burnt and been disposed off.

On October 2, a fire had broken out at the Presidential Supermarket and the Directorate of Transport office at KTC bus stand, wherein old records books, old registers and old papers were burnt.
