PONDA: For Congress, Vishwajit Rane’s resignation as an MLA and his joining the BJP may be a big betrayal. However, at Vishwajit’s election campaigns and meetings, his alleged betrayal of Congress is being glorified as an act of sacrifice for the development of Goa.

The glorification campaign is being spearheaded by the leaders of MGP and Goa Forward party.

On Friday, the MGP and Goa Forward leaders urged the Usgao residents during an election meeting to vote for Vishwajit with a promise to develop the ‘neglected’ Usagao Ganjem panchayat. The meeting was held in Adinath Mandap, Usgao and was attended by around 1000 people.

The Usagao panchayat with nearly 11,000 voters will play major role in the by-election to Valpoi.

The leaders alleged that greed for power led to the failure of Congress forming government.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said that winning Panjim and Valpoi seats is important for strengthening the government and carrying forward development of Goa

He wooed Usgao voters with a promise of modern PDA market in place of old dilapidated PDA market, housing, employment and regular water supply from Ganjem water treatment plant.

Parrikar said that industries that do not provide 80 percent jobs to locals would not be tolerated in Goa.

Labelling the Congress leaders and its MLAs as power greedy, Parrikar urged the voters to sideline them for the development of Goa.

“Despite winning majority of seats, the Congress party missed the opportunity to form a government as it could not reach a consensus on who should be its chief minister,” Parrikar said.

“If they can’t decide on their leader, how will they decide on the development of Goa?” he questioned.

Urging voters to elect Vishwajit, PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar said that he is younger brother to him.

Sudin also echoed the opinion of Parrikar that the downfall Congress Party was due to lack of unity and consensus in deciding their chief ministerial candidate.

Terming Vishwajit’s resignation as a daring step, TCP Minister Vijay Sardesai called him a “visionary leader who took the decision to leave the Congress for the development of Goa.”
