PANJIM: The United Balrath Employees Union (UBEU) has written to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar seeking his intervention in the matter of fulfilling the assurance given by the government to the balrath employees.

Addressing the media, UBEU President Swati Kerkar said, “Following the futility of sincere efforts taken by the members of UBEU to resolve their demands by amicable and peaceful means, the union members were ultimately left with no alternative but to take to the streets.”

She added, “Unfortunately even after a period of 14 months, the government has failed to fulfill the assurances and commitment given to the Balrath employees. Only 10 percent enhancement per annum in their salaries has been given which is not acceptable to the union.”

Kerkar said that the committee members being headmasters and educationists, including the Director of Education, it is unbecoming and unholy on their part to bluff the employees who having believed in the assurance given by the committee deferred their strike.

UBEU also said that it is the democratic duty and collective responsibility of the Chief Minister to hold the government responsible and ensure that the assurance to fulfill the demands given by the State in the larger interest of upholding the dignity and development in the field of education.
