MAPUSA: Bardez sarpanchas have listed their priorities and development plans of their respective village panchayats, with most highlighting the construction of panchayat buildings and completing pending works.

MAPUSA: Bardez sarpanchas have listed their priorities and development plans of their respective village panchayats, with most highlighting the construction of panchayat buildings and completing pending works.

Talking to the Bardez sarpanchas one got the feeling that each of the panchayat head was keen on initiating and implementing innovative programmes for the residents of their respective panchayats.  

The sarpanch of Camurlim Vishant Gaonkar, a first time sarpanch, who was elected unopposed is keen on constructing a panchayat building, which would house the panchayat office, hall, gym, post office, bank and six shops which would be leased out.

Other problems that he seeks to resolve are continuous electricity, water supply, hot-mixing of roads, street lighting etc.

For the Verla Canca sarpanch Milton Marques too, who has been elected for the fifth time, building a modern panchayat house is a priority, where he plans to initiate online services.  

The zilla parishad member is also keen on solving the garbage problem by providing dustbins at every corner of the village and curbing the menace of illegal construction.

The Arpora sarpanch Shrikrishna Nagvekar, who was elected unopposed also talked about panchayat house construction and easing garbage problem.

Among other priorities, the sarpanch said more garbage collection vehicles would be procured and efforts would be made to make the panchayat paperless by initiating online services.

The Pilerne-Marra Sarpanch Raghunath Govekar, who too was elected unopposed laid stress on infrastructure development and providing employment for youth.

The second-time sarpanch said among the major projects awaiting implementation is the multipurpose complex planned on land next to the existing panchayat building.
