Bardez tops in liquor law violations

PANJIM: The popular Bardez costal belt has recorded the highest number of liquor law violations from the time the election code of conduct came into force in the State on January 4.

PANJIM: The popular Bardez costal belt has recorded the highest number of liquor law violations from the time the election code of conduct came into force in the State on January 4. 

Excise Department raided 156 places to book 33 cases from January 4 to 16 in Bardez. Tiswadi came second in the list with 14 cases and 168 raids. Bicholim recorded just one case while Pernem and Sattari had three cases each. 

Records indicate that both districts had a total of 1293 raids and 102 cases of which north district witnessed 708 raids and 54 cases compared to 585 raids and 48 cases in South Goa during the period. In all, a total of over 814 litres of alcohol including IMFL, beer and country liquor have been seized from various locations across the State. The total amount of which is above Rs 1.23 lakh.
