Bill to enhance retirement age of teaching doctors tabled

PANJIM: The government on Thursday introduced The Goa University (Amendment) Bill, 2017, proposing to enhance the retirement age of all teaching staff of Goa Medical College (GMC), Goa Dental College (GDC) and Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) to 65 years.

PANJIM: The government on Thursday introduced The Goa University (Amendment) Bill, 2017, proposing to enhance the retirement age of all teaching staff of Goa Medical College (GMC), Goa Dental College (GDC) and Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) to 65 years.

The Bill, tabled by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, intends to enhance the retirement age from the current 62 years.

“In order to prevent loss of senior experienced medical, dental personnel of GMC, GDC and IPHB, Bambolim, it is proposed to amend Section 15A of the Goa University Act, 2009 so as to enhance the age of retirement to 65 years for the teaching staff of the three institutes affiliated to GU, so that students and patients at large will be benefitted by the rich experiences of the teaching staff,” the Bill states.

The financial implications involved in the proposed raise in the retirement age works out to Rs 13.21 crore approximately while additional liability arises from salary differential and higher pension scales. 

Meanwhile, the government  introduced The Goa University (Amendment) Bill, 2017 proposing to enhance the retirement age of all teaching staff of Goa Medical College (GMC), Goa Dental College (GDC) and Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) to 65 years. 

The Bill tabled by Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar intends to enhance the retirement age from the current 62 years with an aim to benefit the medical students and patients at large ‘by the rich experience of teaching staff.’

“In order to prevent loss of senior experienced medical, dental personnel of GMC, GDC and IPHB, Bambolim it is proposed to amend section 15A of the Goa University Act, 2009 so as to enhance the age of retirement to 65 years for the teaching staff of the three institutes affiliated to GU, so that students and patients at large will be benefitted by the rich experiences of the teaching staff,” the Bill states.
