Bloodletting in Calangute: Murder victim & alleged killer were bitter enemies

Victim Tyron Nazareth had stabbed accused Joseph Sequeira earlier; Argument over a mutual female friend could have been the final trigger leading to the murder

CALANGUTE: A petty argument which started with a few remarks to a female friend ended in a gruesome murder in Calangute on Sao Joao wherein a history-sheeter, Joseph Ismail Sequeira, stabbed another, Tyron Nazareth, resulting in his death as he was being rushed to the hospital. Police sources revealed there were four criminal cases booked against each of them in Calangute police station. Investigating the reason for their rivalry, Herald learnt that both the deceased Tyron Nazareth and accused Joseph Ismail Sequeira had a mutual female friend.

On May 3, when Tyron along with his female friend and other friends were sitting at a hotel, Joseph’s  group was also present at that spot.

When Joseph started passing remarks at the female friend, Tyron got upset and started an argument which later led to Joseph stabbing Tyron. 

Sources said Tyron was a drug peddler for over 30 years. The accused Joseph was an alleged drug addict. Sources also informed both victims and accused were spotted together on the day of Sao Joao, the day of the crime.

The deceased, Tyron 52, resident of Calangute was arrested three times under different Sections of NDPS case along with a stabbing case wherein he was accused of stabbing the current accused Joseph Ismail Sequeira in May 2017.

Tyron was first arrested in year 2009 for illegal possession of 150 grams of Heroin, 11.250 grams of Charas and 7.150 of Ganja all worth Rs 11,830.

He was convicted in year 2016. Tyron was then arrested in year 2012 during a narcotic raid for possessing 320 grams of Ganja worth Rs 6,200 and cash amounting to Rs 37,840.

 In year 2013, Tyron was again caught red-handed with 12 grams of Charas and 12 boxes each containing 100 syringes. Both this cases are pending trial. Then in May, he was booked for stabbing his rival Joseph Ismail Sequeira, the current accused.

Reportedly Tyron Nazareth along with friends namely Eshu, Rahul, Vicky and another unknown person had stabbed Joseph Sequeira near Calangute fish market with a knife and  beer bottles causing serious injuries to Joseph Sequeira’s in the abdomen, chest head and back. After this incident Tyron along with other accuse persons were arrested.

Tyron Nazareth was released from jail on June 20, 2017 and four days later, this incident happened where he was stabbed by Joseph Sequeira in the Calangute Fish market. 

On the other hand, the accuse Joseph Sequeira is no stranger to crime. According to police, Joseph, was first booked under Section 356.379 r/w 34 IPC for snatching the bag of a Russian national. The bag contained US $ 2,500, cash Rs 2000 and a mobile phone in 2013.  

In another case, in year 2014, Joseph Sequeira along with his friends had pelted stones, beer bottles and had damaged a cricketer’s restaurant and the staff accommodation flats and then set fire to the furniture. In this case, the accused persons were arrested and then released on bail.

In the third case, Joseph was booked under Section 341, 323, 427  r/w 34 IPC, for restraining Movin Lobo and assaulting him with punches and kicks and also damaging the complainer’s scooter. In the fourth case, Joseph was booked for assaulting one Imran Hussain and his brother with beer bottles on his face causing injuries which needed stitches on his face. All these cases are pending trial.

Police sources revealed that on the day of the murder at Calangute fish market at around 10.30 am, the accused along with his two friends stabbed the deceased in the stomach, shoulder and hand resulting in 5 major wounds.
