Bridge collapses under weight of truck
CURCHOREM: The pedestrian bridge over the irrigation canal connecting Temcho Waddo and Abdula bhatt at Sanguem collapsed, when a heavy laterite stone-laden truck was crossing the bridge, on Saturday evening.

CURCHOREM: The pedestrian bridge over the irrigation canal connecting Temcho Waddo and Abdula bhatt at Sanguem collapsed, when a heavy laterite stone-laden truck was crossing the bridge, on Saturday evening.
On being informed by the Water Resource Department (WRD) office in Sanguem, police rushed to the site to take stock of the incident
Police said that the bridge is meant only for pedestrians and vehicles are prohibited, as such, the laterite-stone laden truck was crossing the bridge illegally when it collapsed under the weight of the truck.
Assistant Engineer of WRD from Quepem M A informed that the bridge was built around 30 years ago over the canal only for pedestrian use prohibiting for vehicles and a signboard has been erected in this regard.
When asked to show the signboard, blank signboard was found with nothing has been written over it.
According to Gauri, the estimated loss could be around Rs.10 t0 15 lakh. A complaint has been lodged against the truck owner.
It is also seen that service road along the canal has been hot mixed and used for transportation.
