PANJIM: The Crime Branch on Saturday objected to the anticipatory bail application filed by social activist Advocate Aires Rodrigues, who has been booked in a sexual harassment case and requested the court to reject it as the application under Section 438 CrPC does not stand.

Principal Sessions Judge Irshad Agha heard the anticipatory bail plea filed by Rodrigues and adjourned the case to December 11.

A married woman has accused Rodrigues of sexually harassing her and outraging her modesty by posting her picture on the Facebook linking her in a sex scandal. The woman had filed the case before Anjuna police which was eventually transferred to Crime Branch.

Opposing the anticipatory bail plea, Crime Branch said that the “present crime is evil in nature as the accused applicant has outraged the modesty of a woman and also defamed her in the society.”

by virtue of the act of the accused applicant despite being a lawyer.”

CB submitted in the Court that Rodrigues has not cooperated with the investigating agency and also avoided to appear at the time mentioned in the notice for appearance.

Crime Branch said that the investigation in the case is at preliminary stage and interrogation, search and recovery has to be carried out. CB also said that the application for anticipatory bail is not maintainable as they are probing a cognizable offence.
