PANJIM: The fresh lease agreements between the City Corporation and the legal tenants at Panjim municipal market will be placed before the Council during the ordinary corporation meeting on Tuesday.

The meeting will also discuss the status of the market vis-à-vis public interest litigation filed before the High Court of Bombay at Goa, besides payment of the electricity bill which runs into crores of rupees.

Last month Mayor Surendra Furtado had written to the newly-appointed Commissioner Ajit Roy urging action into the pending issues, one of which included the execution of leave & licence agreements with the legal tenants/occupiers in the municipal market.

Furtado had stated that the earlier Commissioner had initiated action to evict the illegal occupiers of CCP market ‘but the action is half hazard and not effective as not in a single case eviction of the public premise has take place’. The Mayor has been alleging that illegal occupiers are fearlessly carrying out their trade.
