PANJIM: The CCP has initiated proceedings to take possession of one of the oldest buildings in the capital – National Theatre – located on its property. The move comes based on legal opinion that the lease agreement of 30 years with the Rao & Company expired in 2005. Once with CCP, the land will be used for multi-storey parking.

“The CCP is entitled for the property tax on the building and hence if it is not imposed, it may be calculated and adjusted/collected from the compensation to be paid to Rao & Co by CCP,” CCP lawyer Advocate Promoy Kamat suggested.
