PANJIM: Goa State Council of the Communist Party of India (CPI) on Tuesday expressed concern over the rising heinous activities of extremist outfits all over India particularly in Maharashtra, Karnataka and Goa. 

“Recently the Maharashtra ATS arrested three persons for plotting bomb blasts and seized from them at least 20 crude bombs. According to ATS the blasts were planned ahead of Independence Day celebrations and Bakri Eid,” CPI-Goa Secretary R D Mangueshkar said.

He added, “All those arrested are alleged to have connection with two Hindutva extremist groups as named by ATS. The police said that the accused planned to carry out terror attacks in Mumbai, Pune, Solapur and Satara districts in the coming days to spark communal disturbances ahead of Bakri Eid.”

He said that the ones who were arrested, according to Karnataka SIT, were linked with the murders of Gauri Lankesh, Govind Pansare and other rationalists. The murders of all four have not been solved and Bombay High Court has expressed anger at the slow pace of the case and failure to arrest some of the accused. 

“The party demands that the Central Government, Maharashtra and Karnataka governments ban these terrorist organisations named by ATS as they are not only engaged in killing of progressive, secular, democratic-minded people but also conspiring for communal disturbances in the country,” he added.

CPI-Goa also demanded an immediate ban on all such extremist groups  that indulge in heinous crimes, disturbing the democratic and secular fabric of our Nation.
