PANJIM: After a long delay, the 19-meter-long concrete bridge at Campal, over St Inez creek, was finally thrown open for traffic on Tuesday.

Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar inaugurated the bridge constructed by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) at an estimated cost of Rs 2.22 crore.

The work order for the project was issued on December 27, 2016 to Expanse India Buildcon Pvt Ltd. The construction work was supposed to be completed and the new bridge thrown open from October 2017 but due a lack of response from bidders and technical issues the project was slowed down.

GSIDC vice chairman Siddharat Kuncolienkar said the bridge is 19 meters in length with 4.5 metrs long approaches on both sides and 11 meters wide including two meters side footpath on both sides for pedestrians.

He said that the deck slab has been provided with an elliptical curve to maintain the aesthetics of the area. “Patradevi stone cladding is provided to the bridge face. Also decorative illumination is provided on the bridge,” Kuncolienkar stated.
