MARGAO: The Public Works Department came under heavy fire at the Camurlim gram sabha on Sunday as the people have suffered for nearly a year over the work of repairing the road leading from Margao to Ponda and are now burdened with irregular water supply.

The regular break down in water supply was highlighted at the gram sabha with people fearing that if the situation was so bad at the beginning of the summer season, it would only become worse in coming days.

The people pointed out that now since the work on the highway is completed, the water supply department could also not give the excuse of the road works being the cause of the pipeline break down and demanded that the government immediately resolve their problems.

The other topic to dominate the gram sabha was the hill cutting in the village and so strident was the cry against it that the panchayat was forced to agree to write to the authorities concerned to take action against this illegal act.

Later, the administrative report was also approved by the gram sabha.
