Canacona bridge to be named after Parrikar

CANACONA: Loliem-Polem village panchayat (VP) in a special meeting held on Saturday passed a resolution unanimously to name the Galgibaga-Mashem bridge after late Manohar Parrikar as he was instrumental in starting the work of the Charrasta-Mashem bypass in December 2015.

The 980 mts bridge constructed over the Galgibaga-Mashem rivers is nearing completion and Goa chief minister Dr. Pramod Sawant declaring that the bypass link from Charrasta to Mashem will be inaugurated most probably on July 20, 2019, the panchayat in a hurriedly called meeting passed the resolution to that effect.

The resolution with a covering letter requesting the authorities to name the bridge after late Manohar Parrikar is being forwarded to the CM's office, PWD minister, Canacona MLA Isidore Fernandes and principal chief engineer PWD.

Speaking to this correspondent Ajay Lolienkar, sarpanch of Loliem-Polem VP said that the 7.74 kms Charrasta-Mashem bypass link costing about 272 crores, was conceptualized in nineties, but due to the interest taken by ex CM and then Defence Minister late Manohar Parrikar the work had commenced in December 2015 and is about to be completed in a month’s time.
