CANACONA: With concerned citizens and NGOs raising red flags over littering of plastic waste by the road side, Canacona Municipal Council (CMC) through a public notice has cautioned citizens to stop selling and using plastic. The CMC in the notice issued last week has warned that hefty fines will be imposed on those selling or using plastic within the CMC jurisdiction.

The plastic ban notice has been issued in view of the Ganesha Chaturthi celebrations.

Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav is celebrated at many places in the taluka and CMC this year has instructed the Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav committees to segregate the waste generated during the celebrations.

Chaya S Komarpant, CMC chairperson handed over garbage bins to Ganesh mandals in and around the municipal jurisdiction and requested them against using thermocol and other non-degradable materials.

Four bins where handed over to all the four Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav mandals in the presence of Hemant Kumar Gaunkar, Diwakar Pagui, Namratha Dessai, Pundalik Gaunkar and Persi Fernandes.
