MARGAO: The Cavelossim Villagers Forum and the Colva Civic and Consumer Forum on Saturday jointly opposed the amendment to the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification as proposed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and also demanded the immediate replacement of Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority Member Secretary.

Briefing media persons Iris Passanha of the Cavelossim Villagers Forum and Judith Almeida of the Colva Civic and Consumer Forum said their organizations will be shortly filing their objections to the amendments and termed the proposal as only a mean to please hoteliers and business class at the cost of the environment.

“When there are so many violations now when there are restrictions up to 100 mts from the high tide line, one can imagine what will be the plight if the restrictions are reduced to only 50 mts,” they chorused.

They both condemned the functioning of GCZMA Member Secretary Parag Nagarcenkar and demanded his immediate replacement with a more responsible officer and both said that various orders of the National Green Tribunal are not being implemented by the GCZMA.
