MARGAO: Additional Sessions Judge I Edgar Fernandes on Wednesday framed charges of conspiracy and murder against Shevanti Desai and her son Hemant Desai for murdering Suryakant Desai at Xelvona, Curchorem over land dispute on February 23, 2015.

During a quarrel over land rights outside their residence, the accused hit the deceased on his head with a spade outside their residence as they were having a dispute over land and they parties were arguing over the construction of a retaining wall when Shevanti caught Suryakant by his collar and threw him to the ground when Hemant hit with the spade resulting in his death.

Shevani Dessai has been granted bail by Bombay High Court on 25th April and subsequently Hemant was granted bail recently as he pleaded that it was not his intention to kill Suryakant.

Public Prosecutor Subhash Desai is arguing the case for the State while Police Inspector Ravindra Desai was the investigating officer.

With the frame of charges, the prosecution will now lead evidence to prove the guilt of the accused.
