MARGAO: Nearly a year after kidnapping a child, the police finally nabbed the accused 35-year-old Rizwan Indu, a Bhopal resident, who has been now remanded to five days police custody.

It may be recalled that on October 31, 2017 at around 11.20 pm the accused allegedly kidnapped a two-year-old girl, who was sleeping along with her family members on platform No 1 at Margao and fled to Mumbai in a train at 11.45 pm.

Konkan Railway Police along with Railway Police Force went to Mumbai and traced the accused with the child at the Bandra Railway Station. In fact when the accused tried to flee to Mumbai, he was questioned about the child and the video recording of that conversation is in the possession of the police. The police had circulated photographs of the accused to all the police stations across the country.

On September 8, the KRC police were informed by Mangalore Railway Police that a person matching the description of the accused has been detained by them under suspicion and accordingly a police team left for Mangalore and took possession of Rizwan.

While Rizwan did not confess to anything in Mangalore, while being brought to Goa, he not only admitted to kidnapping the child but also informed the girl’s whereabouts. Apparently, as Rizwan was spotted begging at the Bhopal Railway Station with the child, the police took him into custody.

Although he claimed that the child was his, he failed to prove the same. Hence, Bhopal police sent the child to a children’s protection home while Rizwan was detained under suspicion in Mangalore. The court on Monday remanded him to five days police custody.

A police team has left for Bhopal to verify whether the same child was kidnapped from Margao. The police attempts to trace the child’s parents in Hubli were unsuccessful.

It may be recalled that the child comes from a poor family from Hubli which frequents Goa and begs for a living on the railway platforms during the day.
