MARGAO: Lamenting that the villagers of Chandor Cavorim had kept him out of their movement to remove the State Highway passing through their village, Cuncolim MLA Clafasio Dias reiterated his support to this demand and also pledged to undertake the various development works that were discussed at the special gram sabha held on Sunday where he was invited.

Responding to the panchayat members’ complaint that only a few of them received concrete slabs to cover the drains from the Zilla Panchayat, he said he would provide the slabs to the other members and pointed out that Zilla Panchayat does not have much of budget and cannot spend as much money as is required.

He also told the panchayat members that he would personally help them wherever the panchayat felt that electricity poles were required for public purpose for which the department asks the individual or the panchayat to pay the cost of the pole.

Having arranged for the engineers to inspect the proposal earlier, he assured the villagers that he would pursue with the Water Resources Department to develop the Oilem Tollem lake in the village.

Even as the villagers were demanding that water be released in the Paroda canal by first December from next years, Clafasio promised to get the water released by December 15 this year.

There was much discussion over the asphalting of the road in Cotta area as the tender named it as State Highway. After the MLA explained that it would take another year for the tender to be rectified, it was decided that the asphalting work be undertaken with no widening of the road.

The MLA also assured the villagers that speed breakers would be installed wherever necessary and that they would be painted properly to avoid any accidents. The villagers also demanded upgrading the Sub Health Centre in the village by appointing a full time doctor and providing pathological facilities to undertake basic tests.
