Coconut is State tree now

PANJIM: Goa Government has notified the coconut tree as State tree along with the matti tree, following the amendment to the Act that was passed in the July-August assembly session to allow the coconut palm to regain the tree status.

PANJIM: Goa Government has notified the coconut tree as State tree along with the matti tree, following the amendment to the Act that was passed in the July-August assembly session to allow the coconut palm to regain the tree status. 

“In exercise of the power conferred by Section 7A of the Goa, Daman and Diu Preservation of Trees Act, 1984 (Goa Act No. 6 of 1984), the Government of Goa, having regards to ecological, social-economic, cultural or heritage value, hereby declare “matti” (Terminalia elliptica) and “coconut tree” (cocos nucifera) to be State trees”, the notification reads.
