MARGAO: In a complaint lodged with the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police a member of the United Goans Foundation (UGF), alleged that the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) has suffered a loss of Rs 10 crore due to illegal decisions taken by the GIDC Board in June 2012 and disregarded acts of corruption by the then GIDC employees and their families.

The complaint said that the GIDC suffered the loss due to unaccounted earnings from the illegal leasing of a plot at the Verna Industrial Estate and other plots in other Industrial Estates which were allotted to self/kin of the suspended ex-employees of GIDC. One of the employees is presently posted at GIDC head office, stated the complaint.

The then GIDC deputy general manager was placed under suspension by GIDC in connection with the alleged irregularities in allotment of plots. The total quantum of land under question acquired by the then deputy GM was around 20,000 sq mts.

The then CM, Manohar Parrikar, had even ordered an FIR to be filed against the Dy GM in the Anti Corruption Bureau. After his suspension, the Dy GM passed away in an accident but even after 6 years, the case is yet to reach the Courts.

The UGF’s complaint referred to the 2015 CAG report which stated that “Inaction of management in weeding out the vulnerability due to employees’ interests in the Corporations, we observed that 17 employees of the Corporation had acquired plots in various IEs (totalling 56,550 m2) in their names or in the name of their family members. The matter was deliberated in Board’s meeting (June 2012 and August 2012) and decided not to initiate disciplinary action against those employees who surrendered the plots on or before August 2012. 

The services of one employee were terminated (Nov 2013) and another employee was suspended. However, in respect of the remaining 15 employees, no action was taken despite these employees allotting plots in their name.
