Cong accuses St Andre MLA of selling voters to BJP

PANJIM: Local MLA Francisco Silveira who defected from Congress must disclose the amount at which he auctioned St Andre voters with Narendra Modi and Amit Shah in Delhi to join BJP asked GPCC President Girish Chodankar while addressing a meeting of Congressman at Zuari in St Andrem constituency.

He further said that Francisco Silveira had promised development while joining BJP but is now busy doing his personal development and not the development of his constituency.

Chodankar questioned the local MLA about the number of jobs he has provided to the unemployed youth from his constituency after he joined BJP, since he was claiming that he will provide hundreds of jobs after joining BJP.

“I want to question the local MLA Francisco Silveira about his assurance to the people of St Andrem to de-notify notification on Marina project after joining BJP. He has not done anything till date despite being in the government. People are worried that big companies will take away our coast and beach depriving Goans of their traditional business. Silveira must come out clean on this,” he said.

Chodankar also attacked BJP government for “financial mismanagement” by increasing debts of the State by creating debt of Rs 1.50 lakh per person and also collapse of administration.

He came down heavily on the government for ignoring basic issues like potholes on roads, naphtha vessel, diversion of River Mhadei, river nationalisation, traffic chaos at Cortalim bridge, rising unemployment, problems with electricity and water supply, resumption of mining, rising corruption, rising prices of essential commodities like onion and other issues.

Chodankar also urged the members to identify candidates for the upcoming Zila Panchayat elections which, he said, the party would contest on party line.

He also urged the members present to identify a new face for St Andrem constituency who will not sell the voters for a few crores of rupees. He also urged members to enrol maximum members during the ongoing membership drive by visiting people.

North Goa district Congress Committee Secretary Simon Caiado welcomed the members and said he is committed to the people of St Andrem and will work to strengthen the block.

He also attacked Silveira for joining hands with communal BJP by betraying the voters and said people of St Andrem are waiting for first opportunity to teach him a lesson and they will defeat him in the upcoming assembly elections.

He said Silveira joined BJP without informing people who elected him.
