Curchorem police nab murderer after four months

The accused had murdered a 55-year-old woman who had employed him to chop wood

CURCHOREM: After a long manhunt Curchorem police finally on Monday late night nabbed the suspect Shyam Devidas native of Sanguem and resident of Davorliwada-Karmanne from Margao railway station who was absconding after murdering 55 years old woman Succorina Travasso e Fernandes in her house at Bebquegal, Curchorem.

According to Quepem DySP Uttam Raut Dessai they received a message from the Margao railway police informing that similar feature person whose photo was published in the lookout notice was traced on railway platform and detained for interrogation. "Immediately I along with IO Ravi Dessai and other staff went there and interrogated him where he confessed of committing the crime and narrated that after that he went to Panvel via Margao and stayed there for nearly four months and finally came back to Margao after working at Manglore and Hassan." informed Raut Dessai.

When asked what could be the reason, DySP said Shyam told them he killed her because she refused to give him his payment after cutting the wood. "Moreover this man has a tendency for sexual activities and therefore there are every possibilities that he must have tried to outrage her modesty which she must have been denied and fearing that she might tell someone, he killed her. That could be one of the reasons." said Raut Dessai and informed that they would investigate the case further in all the possible angles.

It may be recalled that on July 7 this year the daughter of the deceased who is working in a private firm found her mother's body on the floor in a pool of blood when she returned home at aroung 9.30 pm on that fateful day and then she immediately intimated her mother's sister Milagrina Travasso from Amblai-Panchwadi who later notified the police.
