VASCO: A portion of the false ceiling of the new integrated terminal building of the Dabolim airport collapsed on Sunday night. However no one was injured in the incident.

According to information, the incident was reported late Sunday night near the departure terminal, when the small portion of false ceiling near X-ray machine crashed.  The incident created panic among the staff and passengers. However, the situation was controlled by AAI officials who ruled out any danger to other portion of the false ceiling.

According to Director of Airport Authority of India (AAI) Goa Airport, B C H Negi, the repair work of the false ceiling was done recently and they suspect that the same portion crashed, though AAI has deputed an officer to investigate into the matter.

“Yes a small portion of false ceiling of terminal building collapsed. However, no one was injured. Recently, the repair works of false ceiling were carried out and we suspect that the contractor, who was assigned the job might have not fixed the repaired portion of false ceiling, which has now crashed,” Negi said.

When Herald contacted the Chairman of Dabolim Airport Advisory Committee, South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, he too confirmed that a portion of false ceiling had collapsed. However, he further clarified that the same has been attended to by the airport authorities.  He said that he has asked the AAI officials to submit a report of the incident.

Surprisingly, this is fourth such incident of false ceiling collapse reported at the new integrated building of Dabolim airport for which government had spent over Rs 350 crore.
