PANJIM: The decision on the resignation letter of GPCC President Luizinho Faleiro will have to wait for the All India Congress Committee (AICC) Vice-President Rahul Gandhi to return from his foreign tour.

However, sources claim that the resignation is most likely to be accepted, as the AICC secretary and Goa desk in-charge Dr Chellakumar had informed AICC President Sonia Gandhi and Rahul of the MLAs demand.

Almost a year and nine months after he first tendered his resignation from the post of Goa Congress unit chief in October 2015, Faleiro, on Friday, sent another letter to Sonia Gandhi asking her to relieve him of the responsibility “as some MLAs feel that my continuation creates a hindrance to the formation of the government”.

However, despite Faleiros’ move after being hurt at the manner in which some of the senior party leadership has been gunning for him, the anti-Luizinho faction showed no sign of relenting.

“If he has tendered his resignation, then, he should stick to it and not continue in the chair until the High Command decides on it,” Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco said.

Faleiro in his letter said the party would have won 21 seats had it not been for the misjudgment and misguidance of some senior Congressmen. “A couple of senior leaders had publicly stated that Congress would not win more than two seats in the 2017 Assembly polls. Now, these same leaders are claiming that they can form the government in the present scenario,” the former chief minister wrote.

It is now clear that Faleiro was not only referring to former Chief Minister DIgambar Kamat but also the CLP leader Babu Kavleker, whose words clearly prove what Faleiro stated in his letter

Kavlekar said, “No one has any personal rivalry against Faleiro. Everyone is aware that he did not have good relations with non-Congress MLAs (Vijai Sardesai led Goa Forward Party) and the Congress people feel that his action made us sit in the opposition again.”

It is clear though, that it was not Faleiro but AICC general Secretary Digvijay Singh who delayed selecting the CLP leader and going to the Governor, which caused the BJP to seize the initiative

When contacted, senior MLA Digambar Kamat declined to comment saying, “I don’t want to comment on anything. I have no idea which senior MLAs Faleiro is referring to.”

Speaking to Herald, Dr Chellakumar said the decision on Faleiro’s resignation would be taken only after Rahul Gandhi is back. “See, we are a family and in family there are always differences of opinion. I don’t think anyone has anything personal against each other.
