PANJIM: Designated mamlatdars to dispose of tenancy and mundkar cases in the State have to work six days a week.

Following the decision by the Minister for Revenue, Rohan Khaunte, North Goa Collector has issued an order directing its joint collectors of taluka to work even on Saturdays to dispose of the pending cases.

According to the order, Tiswadi Joint Mamlatdar-I, Bardez joint Mamlatdar-I and 6 and for Pernem, Bicholim and Sattari joint Mamlatdar-I will hear and decide tenancy and mundkar cases.

An officer from South Goa collectorate said that the order to their joint mamlatdars would be issued after FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Almost 3300 cases of agriculture tenancy and hundreds of mundkar cases are pending before the mamlatdars.

The amendment which was passed in the last monsoons session held in August had given powers to the mamlatdars for deciding on the matter under various sections of the Goa Daman and Diu Agricultural Tenancy Act. Similarly, the amendment bill also bestows upon the Collector and the Administrative Tribunal the appellate/revisional power under the said Act.

The amendment bill had also fixed the time limit of three years for disposal of the applications and/or proceedings under sections 7,7A, 14, and 18 of the said Act, from the date of their filing or from the date of their receipt from the Court of Senior Civil Judge, as the case may be.

Government was forced to pass an amended bill after receiving a demand from all political parties and from all corners of the State.
