SANGUEM: The villagers of Curdi Wadem in Sanguem who have sacrificed their ancestral lands to pave way for the construction of the Selaulim Dam are water shortage both for agriculture and drinking.

The primary issue that affects the majority villagers is the drinking water supply. In the month of April and May, villagers despite residing a few metres away from the Selaulim Reservoir are exclusively relying on water tankers for drinking water.

All efforts will be put to regulate drinking and agricultural water supply in the village, informed Curdi Wadem Sarpanch Sanjog Pai.

Another major issue that rocks the panchayat is the network problem in the village. Most of the villages are not getting mobile connections except the Wadem ward which gives harrowing times for the villagers to stay connected with their near and dear ones.

The construction of internal roads and reconstruction of the dilapidated panchayat building will also be undertaken in the next few years, informed Pai.

Uguem Sarpanch Samjay Parwar assures total development of all seven wards in the village.

The issue of cleaning of drainage and choked water drains will be taken up on priority.

The water drains particularly constructed several years ago need to be redone and the work will be undertaken on immediate footing, Parwar said.

“Construction of the new panchayat building will also be completed in few months time,” he said.

Though the construction work was to be completed by August end, the contractor has failed in keeping the date.
