VALPOI: The residents of Dhave village had marched to the water supply department at Valpoi, to complain about the acute water shortage in village, since last one month.

They have demanded a satisfactory solution to restore the water within four days, failing which they have threatened to stage an indefinite sit in protest outside the Valpoi water supply office.

The village, which comprises 68 houses, has been using drinking water from an open well centrally located in the village.

But since the last few years the open well has been drying up in March, making it difficult for locals to fetch drinking water from the well.

The villagers said that they have repeatedly complained to the water supply department about the acute water shortage, but without positive results.

Agitated at the lack of response from authorities, a group of locals led by Panch Ramu Kharwat marched to the Valpoi water supply office and confronted the officials on Friday.

Kharwat demanded that the officials take serious note of the water shortage problems and make an alternative arrangement till a permanent solution was found.

Following their demand, Valpoi Assistant Engineer (water supply) Eknath Paste said tanker water arrangements would be immediately done to address the water shortage problem, while the department would make plans for a special water pipe line for the village.

He also requested the local panch member to submit a copy of the resolution passed by the Nagargao Panchayat regarding the problem.
