MARGAO: Elections to the Zilla Panchayat constituencies of Curtorim and Nuvem will be held today. 

Five candidates are in fray in each of the two constituencies of which only two candidates are sponsored by a political party while the others are Independents.

In Curtorim, the real fight between MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco camp as his supporters wherein they are facing two different groups supporting different candidates. 

Moreno Rebello is the official Congress candidate who has campaigned extensively and has also earlier extended support to the people opposing Carbon dust pollution at Sao Jose De Areal. The second candidate is Dionisio Joao Sardinha who has filed his nomination as an Independent candidate and has also been tirelessly trying to dent the ambitions of his opponent.

Conceicao Dias and Mrs Rudolfina Mascarenhas are the other two Independent candidates in Curtorim. 

Nuvem will see a three-corner fight where former sarpanch Mario Christopher Reuben Costa as a Congress candidate, Delisha Pereira Costa as the dummy Congress candidate and Marcus Maria Pereira as an Independent.

The resignations Clafasio Dias as Curtorim ZP member and Wilfred D’Sa as and Nuvem necessitated these by-election.
