Excise gets order to re-measure liquor vend distance from highways

PANJIM: The Excise department is set to re-measure the distance of liquor vends from highways. A senior Excise Officer informed Herald that they have received the order from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar directing that the distance be re-measured.

PANJIM: The Excise department is set to re-measure the distance of liquor vends from highways. A senior Excise Officer informed Herald that they have received the order from Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar directing that the distance be re-measured. 

“We have received the government order. Amendment to the action plan will soon be carried out so that the re-measurement exercise can begin,” he said. 

The All Goa Liquor Traders Association had said on Thursday that the chief minister had assured them that he would direct the Excise Department to amend the Excise Act, so that the distance from the highways and the liquor shops/bars would be calculated on the basis of approachable road.
