FDA destroys foodstuff worth Rs 26,500 at Ponda, Curchorem

PANJIM: Two teams of FDA officials on Wednesday inspected interstate buses, various sweet manufacturing premises, bakery units and fruit yards at Ponda, Vasco and Curchorem. 

At Ponda, three manufacturing units were inspected out of which two units were found operating without licence under unhygienic conditions and were closed down, says the FDA release.

Also 80kg of Shankarpaali worth Rs 20,000, manufactured under unhygienic conditions and without labels, were destroyed.

Two samples of sweets were drawn for analysis. Two wholesale fruit godowns were inspected to detect any artificial ripening of fruits at Ponda. At Vasco, three sweet manufacturing units were checked.

The second team at Curchorem inspected a bakery alongwith municipality staff. It was found to be unhygienic and operating without a licence and hence was closed down. Stock of bread, cake and expired items like margarine worth Rs 6,500 were destroyed.
