FIR against Madkaikar for violating Code of Conduct

PANJIM: The Old Goa Police
have registered
First
Information Report (FIR) against BJP’s Cumbarjua candidate Pandurang Madkaikar
for allegedly violating model code of conduct during recently held State
legislative assembly polls.
The
case registered based on a complaint filed by one Shirin Naik accuses him of
distributing coupons from a departmental store run by a trust. The complaint
was initially filed before State Chief Electoral Officer which was later
transferred to Old Goa Police, as it is covering the jurisdiction of Cumbarjua
constituency.
The
FIR has been registered under sections 171-B (bribery), 171—E (punishment for
bribery) and 188 (
Disobedience to order duly
promulgated by public servant
)
of Indian Penal Code and section 123(1) of Representation of People’s Act, 1951
(corrupt practice during election).
A
senior police official said they will summon the former congress minister for
questioning if required. “We will examine the acomplainant and the witnesses if
any based on which Madkaikar will be called,” he said.
