Farmers guided in bush pepper cultivation
CANACONA: A six-week training programme bush pepper cultivation, conducted under Agricultural Technology Management Agency, in association with zonal agriculture office, Canacona ended with the distribution of certificates and kits to farmers.

The programme that commenced at Ajit Poi's farm at Khavat in Poiguinim village in Canacona included details from pepper planting to making bush and harvesting of matured pepper.
Poi, a State awardee from the Taluka demonstrated the different stages in the growth of bush pepper and said that any pepper variety can be grown in the form of bush and stressed that there was no need of support trees like arecanut to grow pepper on commercial scale. He said pepper can be grown on stone poles with shade net by using micro-sprinklers for irrigation.
Kits and certificates were given to 40 farmers who participated in the programme.
Project director Shaba Verenkar, Deputy project coordinator Shivram Gaonkar, Sarvanand Sarvankar and Saurab Kamat also gave inputs to farmers during the training period.
