First bio-digestor toilet installed at Nerul Church

NERUL: As part of a pilot project, the Department of Science and Technology, Pune has installed first of its kind bio-digestor toilets at Our Lady of Remedies Church, Nerul.  

After preliminary reports, it will be implemented across the State. These toilets do not affect or contaminate the groundwater table. The toilets have been built at an estimated cost of around Rs 4 lakh.

Speaking at the occasion on the opening of these toilets, Saligao MLA said that for the first time bio-digestor toilets have been installed in the Nerul church compound and there was a need for the same. 

“The church has completed 450 years so we decided to donate this kind of a bio-digestor toilet for the church. Community toilets are required in the villages. The groundwater table will not get contaminated with the making of such kind of toilets prepared with the use of latest technology. There is a need for toilets like these in every village to protect the groundwater,” added Salgaonkar. 

Parish priest of Nerul church and members from Nerul Village Panchayat were also present.
