Four shortlisted for GSPCB member secy

Goa Biodiversity Board member secretary Pradip Sarmokadam
and TERI state convener Dr Fraddry D’Souza are amongst four shortlisted
candidates for the post of Member Secretary of the Goa State Pollution Control
Board (GSPCB). There are also three names from the field of environment
shortlisted for the post of Chairman.
Following National Green Tribunal (NGT) order in August,
last year, making it mandatory
the special
knowledge or practical experience in the environment protection studies for the
post of Chairman and MS of SPCBs, across the country, GSPCB had invited
applications for both the posts in November 2016-by drafting special
recruitment rules.
The post of Chairman is been
vacant
since March last year after former chairman Jose Manual Noronha was appointed
as chairman of the Goa Public Service Commission. T the same time, the three-year
tenure of the existing GSPCB and its MS Levinson Martins ended in
June.
Total 22 candidates had applied for both the posts- 13 for
the post of chairman and nine for MS- that include former scientists,
academicians and bureaucrats holding wither Masters of PhD degree in Chemistry
or environment and having work experience of over 10 years.
The three member selection committee for the post of
Chairman shortlisted names of Jayvant Priolkar from Chimble who has working
experience in the field of environment health safety in various companies
including Siba, Ganesh Shetgaonkar from Morjim who is working in a reputed firm
Excel Corp in Mumbai and Navnath Khandeparkar from Margao working in Zuari
Industries Limited.
The committee shortlisted four names for the post of MS- Goa
Biodiversity Board member secretary Pradip Sarmokadam , TERI state convener Dr
Fraddry D’Souza, Navnath Khandeparkar from Margao working in Zuari Industries
Limited and Mahesh Dessai from Ponda having worked in various mining firms.
“The file is yet to be put up before government for
decision. It may take place post election code of conduct,” a senior official
said adding that the shortlisting of the candidates was done before the
election code was announced on January 4.
