MARGAO: Goa Forward Party (GFP) supremo Vijai Sardessai on Saturday gifted e-cycles to the 11 councillors from Fatorda constituency who also owe allegiance to the party to enable them to keep in touch with their voters and admitted that the councillors may not be re-elected if they do not keep in touch with the people.

“It was our responsibility to motivate the councillors to keep in touch with their voters and we have done that by providing these cycles with which they can easily move in their wards and be seen in the wards,” he said while giving the cycles to 10 councillors as Glenn Andrade was not present.

Speaking to media persons, he said e-cycles are provided to keep the environment and the city clean and said it was in keeping with the Global Mobility Summit currently underway at Delhi and said these cycles are also aimed at making the city congestion free.

“The main job of a councilor is to ensure that there is no garbage strewn around, the road side bushes are trimmed and to do this the councilor has to move around the ward and the e-cycles will help them,” he said.

After handing over the cycles to the councillors at his residence Vijai along with the councillors cycled to the Bolshe circle where they inspected the road widening site where Noronha Fereira has agreed to give his land and in lieu of that Vijai has promised him more FAR in future.

“We shall be taking about five metres of road to a length of around 300 metres and as such we shall be using around 1,500 sq mts of his land,” said Vijai. The road is being widened at Bolshe circle where there have been many accidents.
