GHRC takes up Herald report on police atrocities

Sends notices to North Goa SP, Mapusa PI for alleged assault and false arrest of college student

PANJIM: Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC), headed by A D Salkar, has taken cognisance of the Herald news report dated March 23, 2017, and initiated proceedings in a case of assault of 20-year old college student by Mapusa Police and his arrest in a false case.

GHRC served notices to North Goa Superintendent of Police and Mapusa Police Inspector seeking a reply within 10 days.

GHRC officials told Herald that the proceedings have commenced taking cognisance of the Herald report. 

Herald had reported on March 23 that a 20-year-old boy, Jisam Abdul Salam, had alleged that he had been brutally assaulted and jailed in a false case by Mapusa Police. 

The second year commerce student of a Mapusa-based college also filed a formal complaint with the State Police Complaints Authority (SPCA) on Wednesday.
