MARGAO: The Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) has promised to hand over the South Goa district hospital for occupation by May 31, 2018.

The GSIDC officials have informed that the hospital would be ready for occupation by the targeted date and it would be a state-of-the-art facility for South Goa.

The officials said that presently the works of tiling, painting, wiring, fixing of window grills and fire safety equipments are underway.

GSIDC would be floating a tender of Rs 6 crore for supply of furniture to the hospital and the same is being processed.

The officials said that there was some delay in construction of the hospital due to the confusion over housing a nursing college in the complex and an earlier tender in this respect was foreclosed due to the delay. Now a new tender of Rs 92 crore is being executed.

The facilities provided at the South Goa District Hospital will be nearly on par with those being offered at the Goa Medical College Hospital (GMC) at Bambolim. The hospital will have 13 Operation Theatres, Blood Bank, 21 OPDs, NICU, MICU and a 72-unit morgue.

The Project Manager Jude Carvalho said that the work has been absolutely smooth and at full speed till now and the GSIDC would finish the work right on time.

The Directorate of Health Services, however, will have to complete the recruitment of staff and procure hospital equipment and furniture by the time the GSIDC hands over the possession of the hospital.

Sources say that the Health Services has made a huge progress on this front and the equipments would be installed within three months of receiving the orders.

“The nursing college will be housed on the 4th and 5th floors and it will be ready for occupation by May 31, 2018. Now it is the job of the DHS to quickly process the recruitment and tender the equipment and utilities for the hospital,” Carvalho said.
