PANJIM: After having been consistent at the 201st rank in the QS World University Rankings – BRICS Regional Rankings, for the last five consecutive years, Goa University (GU) has slipped to 241st in 2019.

GU, in a statement, has claimed that it has managed to retain its position in the first 250 BRICS universities. “Goa University has retained its position in first 250 Universities in the 2019 edition of the QS World University Rankings – BRICS Regional Rankings section. This is the fifth successive year wherein this rank is retained,” the University said in a press statement issued.

GU said that to avoid anomalous results, QS evaluates only those institutions producing more than 150 papers in the last five years, thereby resulting a comparison of 403 institutions from BRICS countries. “As far as Goa University is concerned, the papers per faculty have gone up this time and the analysis reveals that the staff with PhD indicator is the strongest parameter for the Goa University,” it stated.

As per the QS BRICS World University Ranking data, GU has 5.5 percent international faculty and 84.1 percent faculty members holding a PhD degree.

With 1,522 students, the University has 97 percent post graduate students, while only three percent are under graduate. The University has 24 international students and all are undergraduates.

GU said that rankings also brought an India University Rankings edition for the first time this year and ranked Goa University in their list of top 75 institutions in an overall rank of 56 to 60. “A total of 86 Universities from India were considered using the same parameters that of BRICS Regional Rankings Section,” it stated.
