PANJIM: With Shree Rayeshwar Institute of Engineering and Information Technology (RIT) failing to settle dues of its faculties for the last nine months, Goa University (GU) affiliation enquiry committee has withheld its affiliation as a result of which the college was not a part of the first round of engineering admissions.

RIT engineering college had nearly 180 seats across three branches of Electronics and Telecommunications, Computer Engineering and Information Technology which could be not be filled resulting in first round general category admissions to close at 551 thus leaving aspiring students into a shock.

GU Registrar, Y.V Reddy said “The college had applied for the affiliation but the university affiliation enquiry committee did not recommend because the college has not paid salaries to faculties for the last nine months.”

and that is why the college could not participate in the admission round of DTE. Last year also we had kept this condition to clear the dues first take the affiliation. So this time it is the same case and they have not submitted any application”

“DTE had asked the university about the application status from RIT College and we have given them the reply that it is withheld. RIT has a total of 180 seats across 3 branches of 60 each. This problem has been going in for the last three to four years; they have not been paying salaries. Until and unless the dues are university shall not give them affiliation” said Reddy

It was further revealed from aspiring students that they had to leave the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) premises even conducting a round of admission as the first round for general category closed early at 551 while the second round is slated for July 14.

Meanwhile, RIT Engineering College, Chairman, Subhash Shirodkar said “We have recently applied for the affiliation and we expect it come most probably by July 10 and we shall mostly participate in DTE’s second round of admission which is slated for July 14”

However, DTE has also said that RIT could not participate in the first round of engineering admissions as their affiliation was not granted by GU and further said that once the affiliation is done DTE will go ahead for filling up those 180 seats.
