PILERNE: The garbage menace in the village dominated the Pilerne-Marra gram sabha on Sunday.

The residents also discussed other issues such as pot-holed roads, stray dog menace, cleaning of storm water drains and nullahs.

A local suggested that the panchayat carry out a survey of the number of rooms leased out in the village and to check whether the persons renting out these premises had the required permissions. They also urged Sarpanch Amarnath Govekar to provide these households with dustbins and collect garbage tax as a lot of garbage was strewn along the roadside in the village. The Sarpanch said the panchayat had carried out a tenant verification drive a couple of months ago.

Locals also discussed other issues such as pot-holed roads at several places in the village, which pose a threat to commuters.

Govekar said the hot-mixing of the internal roads will be carried out soon by the Public Works Department (PWD).

The Sarpanch informed the locals that the cleaning of nullahs and drains will be carried out by their respective ward members.

He urged the locals to get in touch with the panchas from their respective wards. Another villager requested the panchayat to look into the stray dog menace in the village.

Govekar said the Panchayat will decide on constructing a pound for the stray cattle and dogs.
