MARGAO: Green activists have yet again reminded the Government of Goa that the State doesn’t require a road as huge as Western Bypass by compromising peoples’ shelters and environment.

On Friday, some activists stopped trucks coming to dump mud for Western Bypass road in Navelim.

Abhijit Prabhudessai of Rainbow Warriors said, “Salcete won’t remain if this western bypass comes to be. Sal River is the lifeline of Salcete. The work of NH in Verna, Nuvem, Navelim, Benaulim and others is going to make the houses on all sides vulnerable to the threats of floods and may as well flood the areas.”

“The roads will also finish the low lying lands and also the water bodies. It is an anti-Goa road and we don’t need it,” he added.

Siddharth Karapurkar said, “This is a Mopa Expressway and not Western Express road. They are going to sell Goa after this road comes up. Lots of illegalities are going on in this works right up to the lands and also environmental facts.”
