PANJIM: Ahead of the implementation of Goods and Services Tax (GST), Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said the State government will create various units to support the people to understand the concept. At the same time, he claimed Goa was GST ready.

“Whenever a new thing begins, there is some confusion for some days. In this case too, there might be some confusions but there is nothing to worry,” he told reporters allaying confusion which is turning into panic among some sections of the people.

“Today, we are going through multiple taxations like excise, customs, luxury, sales, entry, purchase tax, Value Added Tax, etc. In GST, all gets converged into one. It’s very simple like the input and output. There is only one tax (under the GST). A person will not have to report to 10 different companies, and so the basic confusion is reduced. Now what we are talking is newness (about the GST) because of the lack of information in detail. But the information will come through now,” the CM, also Finance Minister explained.

He also added that while it might take 2-3 months for the people to understand, Goa government is ready to implement the GST. At the initial stages of implementation, he stated, “government will take into consideration that everyone is new and so we will definitely ensure that people are not treated harshly. We are creating different units where people can be given information, support and also help… . The general people will benefit because taxes will come down.”
