SANGUEM: With Canacona almost shutting its doors on IIT, preliminary inquiries are being held to shift the IIT to Sanguem. This was made wide clear when a team of government officials attached to IIT sector along with the Samguem MLA Ptasad Gaonkar inspected a site at Kharkhatiaghati in Sanguem for the purpose.

The team reportedly descended at the site in the afternoon and left the place after some time.

The site inspected by the officials is the open pasture interspersed with cashew trees and paddy fields right behind the police colony.

The inspected land is held by individuals either in the capacity as owners or as affaramentos.

Some years back, the same site was chosen for land fill by the government, but could not go ahead with the project on account opposition from the private landlords and paddy cultivators in the locality.
