Govt workers warn parties against defaming them over postal ballots

PANJIM: Taking note of allegations by political parties that government servants are accepting bribes for their votes, the Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has asked politicians to stop making such ‘irresponsible statements’, which could lead to protest or revolt by the employees.

PANJIM: Taking note of allegations by political parties that government servants are accepting bribes for their votes, the Goa Government Employees Association (GGEA) has asked politicians to stop making such ‘irresponsible statements’, which could lead to protest or revolt by the employees. “GGEA has observed that few political parties have been making irresponsible and demoralizing statements on the issue of postal ballot, and claiming that all government servants are corrupt and selling their votes,” GGEA President John Nazareth said in a statement issued on Saturday.

He said GGEA condemns such irresponsible and baseless statements without any specific reference or any case being filed and requests political parties to refrain from making such statements. “We urge Election Commission to issue instructions to political parties restraining them from making such statements,” he stated. “Any irresponsible statement will provoke the peace-loving, sincere and hardworking government employees to unite and revolt,” he said. GGEA admitted there may be some isolated cases of such nature and if so, political parties should file complaints rather than making allegations.
