MARGAO: Guirdolim Zilla Panchayat candidate Moreno Rebello has extended his support to the Sao Jose De Areal locals in their fight to curb the coal pollution from the Goa Carbon Limited. 

Moreno said, "Goa Carbon is processing coal and polluting the entire village. People are suffering from diseases due to coal dust pollution and are threatened with life-shortening diseases". 

Moreno said, “The coal pollution has affected the land, water and crops around the carbon factory in Sao Jose de Areal. Besides health, the village economy too has been hit due to the pollution". 

"For a long time, the locals of Sao Jose De Areal have been objecting to the same and the agitations have thwarted by individuals including politicians. I firmly believe that pollution should be stopped, as it affects health and economy" he alleged.  "I have visited almost 90 per cent houses and I have seen how the coal has affected the lives of the people around the factory in Sao Jose De Areal. The situation in the village is worrisome. The locals of Sao Jose De Areal have raised their opposition to the pollution. I will be with the people and ensure that justice is delivered to them," Rebello added.
